After School Snack: Carrot-Squash Potstickers

This week we brought a little Asian-flare into our Freshmade kitchen. The kids made homemade, healthy Carrot-Squash Potstickers that were served with a simple Citrus-Tamari Dressing.

You don’t have to limit yourself to just carrots and squash in the potstickers. Other great ingredients to fill these with are mushrooms, ginger, cabbage, bell peppers, fresh herbs like parsley and cilantro, sweet potato and even apples!

  • 1 package wonton wrappers
  • 1 small butternut squash (or other), peeled and cubed
  • 3-4 carrots, peeled and diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • Olive oil to coat pan
  • Sea salt & fresh pepper, to taste

Citrus-Tamari Dressing

  • 1/4 cup (4 oz) tamari (we love the low sodium, gluten free option from Eden Organic)
  • 1 orange, juiced
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1-2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-2 scallions, finely diced


  1. Saute carrots, squash and onion in a little olive oil over medium heat until tender.  Add to a bowl and mash.  Season with salt and pepper. Stir to combine.
  2. Place wonton wrapper on a flat surface, add a small amount of the carrot-squash mixture to the wrapper.
  3. Lightly outline the edges using your finger with a little water.  Fold into a triangle.  Set aside on a baking sheet, cover with a wet paper towel to keep them moist.
  4. Repeat with remaining wonton wrappers and filling.
  5. Lightly coat a pan with olive oil.  Cook potstickers in batches, until golden brown on both sides.
  6. For the dressing: Whisk all dressing ingredients together, and serve alongside potstickers.

Freshmade NYC

When Freshmade NYC began it was an idea driven by a question, "How do we make healthier food options appealing and accessible to our children?" Today Freshmade NYC has become a full service catering and events company, as well as a cooking and arts program. And now through our cooking and arts classes we aspire to provide an enriching learning experience as well. Our program is designed to make families more aware of healthy lifestyles through creative, hands on classes for children, their parents and caregivers alike. Because we recognize that it is important to nurture the body, as well as the mind, the curriculum for our classes takes into account the developmental milestones and levels of all of our students. Through group activities and family style classes we encourage socialization, independent thinking, and physical fitness. In addition, classes include components of literacy, science, and math according to age appropriate practices. As we strive to be a successful family center to the neighborhood, we hope to help grow healthy bodies and healthy minds.
