Next you’ll add mulling spices, which are rich in flavonoids and polyphenols. Ginger, cardamom, and cloves help strengthen digestion, while cinnamon is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. The lemon zest and orange add extra flavor and vitamin C.
- 4-6 apples, juiced (will make about 4 cups)
- 4 whole cloves
- 4 whole cinnamon sticks
- 4 whole cardamom pods
- 1-inch piece ginger
- ½ teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 small orange, thin slices
- Wash apples, then chop and prepare to suit your juicer.
- Juice apples and transfer juice to a medium saucepan.
- Add cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and lemon zest.
- Cover and warm on low-medium for 25 minutes. Don’t bring to a boil.
- Add orange slices to the mixture in the last 5 minutes.
