Warm Up with a Healthy Version of Chili Hot Chocolate

Got an urge for chocolate? Want a warming treat? This nutrient-dense cuppa is no danger to your waistline! With some spice to add a delicious kick, this hot chocolate is the perfect craving satisfier as the weather cools down.

  • ½ cup of cashews
  • 2 cups of filtered water
  • 2 Tbsp of cacao powder
  • 2 Tbsp of maple syrup
  • 1 tsp of natural vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp of cinnamon
  • Pinch of chili powder
  • Cacao nibs (optional)


  1. Add all ingredients into a high powder blender and blend for 5 minutes or until it is hot. I used a Vitamix, which heats the liquid after a few minutes on maximum speed.
  2. If you don’t have a high powered blender, mill the cashews into a fine meal with a food processor. Then add the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth then heat in a small saucepan until warm over a medium heat. Do not boil.
  3. Sprinkle cacao nibs on top if you’d like. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Cacao – carob, cacao nibs

Maple syrup – honey, Stevia

Chili – cayenne
